Raising Awareness in a Multi-cultural Workplace is a training designed to increase both self-awareness and cultural sensitivity. Training modules will highlight how personal bias, perceptions and stereotypes can negatively impact cross- cultural working relationships and impede upon quality service delivery. The Developmental Model of Intercultural Sensitivity (DMIS), an evidenced-based framework for enhancing cultural sensitivity and practicing empathic engagement will serve as the foundation for intergroup discussion and activity.

Objectives:

Promote a share language of understanding of related terms associated with promoting diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging in the worklplace.

Review Bennett’s Model of Intercultural Sensitivity and its application to enhancing working relationships within diverse teams.

Engage in group interactive activities to identify and dismantle perceptions and stereotypes that impede upon the development of cross- cultural communication.

Presenter: 

Keva White, LCADC, LSW 

Mr. Keva White is an educator by profession and entrepreneur by nature. With a master’s degree in social work from Temple University, he spent several years working for community-based organizations before founding his own company, VIP Community Services in 2006. Since then, his company continues to provide high quality training and consulting services for social service providers, schools, behavioral health agencies, philanthropic foundations, and healthcare organizations. He is a nationally sought after racial equity consultant and keynote speaker.

Keva is a dynamic presenter with an embracing sense of humor who uniformly receives high marks for his public speaking and teaching skills. He received formal training as a certified cultural and linguistic competence trainer from the National Multicultural Institute (NMCI) out of Washington, D.C. Mr. White is a fellow of Brwn Mawr’s School of Social Work’s Non-profit Executive Leadership Institute (NELI) and serves as a Part- time Lecturer at Rutgers University, School of Social Work.
