What is Health Law?

Health Law is any area of the law or legal practice that touches upon or relates to medical services, health services, or other health-related industries. Attorneys involved in the practice of Health Law serve hospitals, physicians, pharmaceutical companies, physical therapists, health insurance companies, state and federal government, and consumers of health services and products. An attorney involved in Health Law may represent a hospital in defense of a medical malpractice lawsuit, or represent a doctor in negotiating an employment contract, or review a proposed acquisition of a medical practice to insure compliance with federal Stark laws. A Health Law attorney may defend a criminal prosecution against a drug company alleging marketing a drug for non-approved treatments, or prosecute a dentist for violations of the ethical rules governing dentists. Health Law is a broad area of practice encompassing many different types of law and practice.

 

What is the Health Law Section?

The Health Law Section is a section of the Delaware State Bar Association composed of attorneys who practice Health Law. Our Health Law attorneys have an interest in learning about different areas of Health Law practice, in networking with other Health Law practitioners, in educating others about the multiple facets of Health Law, and in advancing awareness of this diverse practice area.
